GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Point University women's swimming team finished in 12th place with 15 points at the 2016 Brenau University Invitational, Nov. 18-19, in the Francis Meadows Aquatics Center in Gainesville, Ga.  The Lady Skyhawks swam eight season-best times in the two-day event.

 

The meet featured three of the top 10 teams in the current NAIA Women's Swimming Coaches' Top 25 poll – number one SCAD-Savannah, number five Brenau University and number seven Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.).

 

Emmanuel College (Ga.) won the women's team title with 696 points, just 11.5 points ahead of SCAD-Savannah's total of 684.5, and Lindsey Wilson placed third with 415.  Fourth-place finisher Columbia College (S.C.) totaled 326 points, just 5.5 points ahead of host Brenau University with 321.5 points.

 

Megan Manning (SO/Deland, FL), Brenna Werst (FR/Eustis, FL), Katie Johnson (FR/Hebron, KY) and Courteney Darrow (JR/Newnan, GA) combined for 17th-place finish and a season-best time of 1:56.05 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a 17th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 4:20.04.  Darrow, McKenzie Dalton (FR/Dothan, AL), Johnson and Manning placed 15th in the 200-yard medley relay with a season-best time and NAIA qualifying cut of 2:09.14, and 15th in the 400-yard medley relay with a season-best of 4:48.71.

 

Manning also placed 21st in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.45, 23rd in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:13.10 and 34th in the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 1:01.27.  Darrow placed 21st in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:35.02 and 29th in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:09.52.

 

Johnson also placed 15th in the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 2:43.87, nearly five seconds better than the previous best time, 26th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1;11.20 and 38th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.08.  Dalton finished 28th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:27.87 and 55th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.84 seconds.  Werst finished 50th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.11 and 55th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.55 seconds.

 

NEXT MEET:  Point University women's swimming, coached by Kaymee Kelly, competes next at the 12th Annual Savannah College of Art and Design Invitational in Savannah, Ga., Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 1-3, in the Chatham County Aquatics Center.
