MONTREAT, N.C. – The Point University men's cross country team competed at the 2016 Appalachian Athletics Conference Championships, hosted by Montreat College in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Saturday, Nov. 5.  Point's six runners raced against 96 other runners from 12 schools on the 8000-meter course but do not qualify this season for the team championship.


Milligan College handily won the team competition with just 40 points, placing runners in second, fourth, seventh, 13th and 14th places, and qualified as a team to race at the NAIA National Championships in Elsah, Illinois, Nov. 19.  Second-place Montreat College scored 79 points and placed runners in third, 10th, 16th, 23rd and 27th positions.  Third-place Tennessee Wesleyan scored 96, fourth-place Truett-McConnell totaled 115, narrowly edging fifth-place Reinhardt University with 117 points.  St. Andrews (N.C.) scored 163 for sixth place, SCAD-Atlanta placed seventh with 169, and Bryan College (Tenn.) placed eighth with 181.  Union (Ky.) placed ninth with 229, Bluefield (Va.) placed tenth with 313, and Allen University (S.C.) placed 11th with 318.


Tyler Boone from Bryan College won first place  with a time of 25:57.1 and qualified as an individual for the NAIA National Meet, along with Brian Lancaster from Montreat, who finished third in 26:25.1, Tyler Barber from Truett-McConnell, who finished fifth in 26:42.1, and Jackson Helfrich from Reinhardt, who placed sixth in 26:49.1.


Point's top finisher in every meet this season except one, Tyler Agan (SO/Locust Grove, GA) finished 24th in field of 102 runners with a time of 28:11.5, the fourth-best time this season by a Skyhawk runner and the tenth-best time ever recorded by a Point runner at the conference meet.


Brayton Gineris (JR/McDonough, GA) finished 44th with a time of 29:24.1, and Gage Brasher (FR/Ashland, AL) placed 66th with a time of 30:53.7.  Drew Duram (FR/LaGrange, GA) placed 71st with a time of 31:29.1, and Clay Cofer (JR/McDonough, GA) completed Point's top five in 77th place with a time of 32:46.1.  A.J. Taylor (JR/Jonesboro, GA) crossed the finish line in 78th place with a season-best time of 32:59.6.
