VALLEY, Ala. – The Point University women's swimming team hosted its first home meet of the 2016-17 season, and lost to Berry College (Ga.), 213-35, in dual-meet action, Oct. 29, in the Valley Recreation Center at the Sportsplex in Valley, Alabama. Berry College is an NCAA Division III member.

 

Megan Manning (SO/Deland, FL) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly event and set a school record of 1:06.49.  She also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 6:03.09 and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:37.11.  Manning swam the lead-off leg for Point's freestyle relay team and swam the third leg on the 200-yard medley relay team that swam a season best of 2:10.61 and placed third.

 

Courteney Darrow (JR/Newnan, GA) placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 12:54.20 and third in the 50-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 32.52 seconds and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.51.  Darrow also swam the first leg of Point's 200-yard medley relay and the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

 

Katie Johnson (FR/Hebron, Ky.) swam the second leg for Point's 200-yard medley and the third leg the 200-yard freestyle relay team.  She also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:15.50, third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.81 and third in the 50-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 32.09 seconds.

 

Brenna Werst (FR/Eustis, FL) anchored the 200-yard medley relay team to a third-place finish and swam the second leg for the 200-yard freestyle relay.  She also finished fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 50:47 seconds, fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 32.60 seconds and third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:47.11.

 

NEXT MEET:  Point University, coached by Kaymee Kelly, swims its second home dual meet of the season against Columbia College (S.C.), Saturday, Nov. 5.  The meet begins at 1 p.m., in the Valley (Ala.) Recreation Center at the Sportsplex.
