Men's Cross Country - Sun, Oct. 23, 2016

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Point University men's cross country team placed 20th among 23 colleges and universities at the 2016 Asics Sand Shark Invitational, presented by Mortgage Network and hosted by the University of South Carolina-Beaufort on UCSB's home course in Hardeeville, S.C., Saturday, Oct. 22.  A total of 216 runners completed the 8000-meter race, and 18 of the colleges represented are members of the NAIA.

 

SCAD-Savannah placed three runners among the top eight and placed first in the team standings with 74 points.  Berea College (Ky.) placed second with 82 points and placed three runners in the top 12.  Milligan College (Tenn.) placed third with 95 points and had three runners in the top 16.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Fla.) placed fourth with 151 points, and the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) placed fifth with 179 points with two runners in the top ten, including the individual champion Sam Beal, who covered the course in 24:33.98, just a little more than 11 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Matthew Smith from SCAD-Savannah, who ran the distance in 24:44.23.

 

Point totaled 515 points with its top finisher, Tyler Agan (SO/Locust Grove, GA) finished 65th in the scoring and 71st among the 216 total runners and covered the 8000-meter course in 27:22.56, a season-best for the Skyhawks' men's team.  Brayton Gineris (JR/McDonough, GA) finished 89th in the scoring and 101st overall with a time of 28:05.57, his best 8000-meter time of the season.  Drew Duram (FR/LaGrange, GA) placed 116th in the scoring and 143rd overall with a time of 29:39.35, his season-best, and Gage Brasher (FR/Ashland, AL) finished 117th in the scoring and 147th overall with a time of 29:53.74, his best 8000-meter time this season.

 

Clay Cofer (JR/McDonough, GA) completed Point's scoring five in 128th place and 165th in the field with a time of 31:13.22.  A.J. Taylor (JR/Jonesboro, GA) crossed the finish line in 133rd place in the scoring and 176th overall with a season-best time of 31:55.37.
