Men's Cross Country - Sun, Sep. 25, 2016

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – The Point University men's and women's cross country teams combined a community 5000-meter race, fun and volunteer community service at the Wingfoot Cross Country Classic, Saturday, Sept. 24, in Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, Ga.  Both teams joined in the field of 682 total runners and no team scores for the universities represented were compiled.  Four members of Point's men's team placed among the top 92.


Race winner Kirubel Erassa covered the distance in 14:56, with Matt McDonald from Atlanta in second place in 15:20.


NEXT EVENT: Coached by Zachery Tyler, the Point men's and women's cross country squads run next on Friday, Sept. 30, at the SCAD-Atlanta Invitational in Newnan, Ga.  The women's race is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and the men's race begins at 6:15 p.m.


POINT MEN AT WINGFOOT CLASSIC:  Point University's Brayton Gineris (JR/McDonough, GA) finished 23rd with a time of 17:13 and set a school record for the 5000-meter distance.  The former record was 17:26.93 which was set in 2014, by Justin Braswell at the West Georgia Invitational.


Tyler Agan (SO/Locust Grove, GA) ran 37th among 682 total runners with a time of 17:34, and Drew Duram (FR/LaGrange, GA) placed 90th with a time of 19:10.  Gage Brasher (FR/Ashland, AL) finished 92nd with a time of 19:13, and Clay Cofer (JR/McDonough, GA) placed 108th with a time of 19:54.  A.J. Taylor (JR/Jonesboro, GA) crossed the finish line in 146th place with a time of 20:55.


POINT WOMEN AT WINGFOOT CLASSIC:  Rebecca Guadiana (JR/Oak View, CA), Point's top runner this season, placed 151st with a time of 21:02 over the 5000-meter course, and Maegan Garritson (SR/Fullerton, CA) placed 248th with a time of 23:30.  Abby Alcantara (FR/Opelika, AL) ran in 279th place with a time of 24:06, and Ashley Kaeser (FR/Rincon, GA) placed 285th with a time of 24:17.  Shelby Garritson (JR/Fullerton, CA) placed 288th with a time of 24:18, and was the fifth runner across the line for the Skyhawks.


Lara McCaughey (SR/Peachtree City, GA) finished 364th with a time of 26:46, and Kati Williams (SR/Zebulon, GA) placed 369th with a time of 26:55.  Abby Contreras (JR/Peachtree City, GA) crossed the line in 393rd place with a time of 27:53, just five seconds ahead of Tia Pullens (SR/Augusta, GA), who placed 394th in 27:58.
