OAKWOOD, Ga. – Point University placed eighth among 14 teams at the University of North Georgia Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 17.  The Skyhawks' five scoring runners totaled 255 points and placed its five runners between places 14 and 73 in the field of 119 total runners.

 

SCAD-Atlanta won the team championship with 23 points and placed its top five runners among the first nine in the race, including the first three finishers and places eight and nine.  SCAD-Atlanta's Emily Kearney won the 5000-meter event with a time of 18:00.  University of North Georgia placed second with 44 points, and SCAD-Savannah placed third with 68.  Piedmont was fourth with 149, and Reinhardt placed fifth with 156.

 

NEXT EVENT: Coached by Zachery Tyler, Point's women's cross country squad runs next on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Wingfoot Cross Country Classic in Cartersville, Ga.  The women's race is scheduled for 8:15 a.m., and the men's race begins at 9 a.m.

 

POINT MEN AT UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA INVITATIONAL:  Rebecca Guadiana (JR/Oak View, CA), Point's top runner last season as a sophomore and again this season as a junior, placed 14th with a time of 20:03 over 5000 meters, and Maegan Garritson (SR/Fullerton, CA) placed 49th with a time of 22:23.  Abby Alcantara (FR/Opelika, AL) ran in 57th place with a time of 22:59, and Shelby Garritson (JR/Fullerton, CA), placed 62nd with a time of 23:23.  Ashley Kaeser (FR/Rincon, GA) placed 73rd with a time of 24:56 and was the fifth scoring runner for the Skyhawks.  Lara McCaughey (SR/Peachtree City, GA) finished 84th with a time of 26:29, and Abby Contreras (JR/Peachtree City, GA) crossed the line in 88th place with a time of 27:11.
