OAKWOOD, Ga. – Point University placed ninth out of 10 schools at the University of North Georgia Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 17.  The Skyhawks' five scoring runners totaled 204 points and placed its five runners between places 26 and 50 in the field of 75 total runners.

 

SCAD-Savannah won the team championship with 37 points and placed its top five runners among the first 17, including places two, three and four.  Shorter University placed second with 65 points, and had the individual champion, Alfred Chelanga, who won the 8000-meter race with a time of 26:44.  Oglethorpe University placed third with 91; University of West Georgia placed fourth with 102; and Reinhardt University placed fifth with 107.  SCAD-Atlanta ran sixth with 149, Covenant College was seventh with 182, and Albany State was eighth with 195, just nine points better than Point University in ninth place.

 

NEXT EVENT: Coached by Zachery Tyler, Point's women's cross country squad runs next on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Wingfoot Cross Country Classic in Cartersville, Ga.  The women's race is scheduled for 8:15 a.m., and the men's race begins at 9 a.m.

 

POINT MEN AT UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA INVITATIONAL:  Point University's Tyler Agan (SO/Locust Grove, GA), Point's top runner in every meet last season and in the first three races this season, ran 26th among 75 total runners with an 8000-meter time of 30:03.  Brayton Gineris (JR/McDonough, GA) crossed the line 14 seconds later in 31st position, and Drew Duram (FR/LaGrange, GA) placed 48th with a time of 32:43.  Clay Cofer (JR/McDonough, GA) placed 49th with a time of 33:06, and Gage Brasher (FR/Ashland, AL) finished in 50th with a time of 33:18.  A.J. Taylor (JR/Jonesboro, GA) crossed the finish line in 61st place with a time of 36:44.
