CANTON, Ga. – Point University placed fourth among five schools in both the men's and women's cross country races at the 2016 Reinhardt University Invitational at Boling Park in Canton, Ga., Friday, Sept. 2.  Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta took five of the first six places and handily won the women's 4000-meter event, and host Reinhardt University placed five runners among the first nine in the men's 6000-meter event.


NEXT EVENT: Coached by Zachery Tyler, Point runs next on Friday, Sept. 9, at the University of West Georgia Invitational in Carrollton, Ga.  The men's race is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start, and the women's race begins at 5 p.m.


POINT AT REINHARDT INVITATIONAL (WOMEN):  SCAD-Atlanta placed first, second, third, fourth, sixth, 14th, and 26th with its first seven runners and totaled 16 points and took home the team title.  Second-place Reinhardt placed seventh, eighth, 11th, 12th, and 15th for 53 points and second place.  SCAD-Atlanta freshman Emily Kearney won individual honors with a time of 14:42.9 over the 4000-meter course, and teammate Greta Van Calcar followed in second place in 14:55.8.


Point's Rebecca Guadiana, an All-Conference selection and Point's top runner as a sophomore, placed fifth among 43 women in the race and recorded a time of 16:04.9.  Maegan Garritson (SR/Fullerton, Calif.) placed 16th with a time of 18:02.6, and her sister, Shelby Garritson (JR/Fullerton, Calif.) placed 19th with a time of 18:45.2.  Abby Alcantara (FR/Opelika, Ala.) made her collegiate debut with a 20th-place finish and a time of 18:46.2, and Abby Contreras (JR/Peachtree City, Ga.) crossed the line in 25th place (23rd in the scoring) with a time of 20:03.0.  Ashley Kaeser (FR/Rincon, Ga.) debuted with a 26th-place finish (24th in the scoring) and a time of 20:14.9, and Kati Williams (SR/Zebulon, Ga.) finished 28th (25th in the scoring) with a time of 20:44.3.  Lara McCaughey (SR/Peachtree City, Ga.) finished 31st with a time of 21:34.2, and Aseantia Pullems (SR/Augusta, Ga.) (SR/Augusta, GA) crossed the line in 40th place with a time of 23:03.1.


POINT AT REINHARDT INVITATIONAL (MEN):  Reinhardt placed second, fourth, sixth, ninth and 14th in the scoring and totaled 35 points for the team title.  Bryan University (Tenn.) totaled 44 points with first, seventh, eighth, 13th and 15th-place finishes.  Bryan senior Tyler Boone won individual honors with a time of 20:28.5 over the 6000-meter course, and Reinhardt freshman Jackson Helfrich followed in second place in 20:59.5.


Point's Brayton Gineris (JR/McDonough, GA) was the first Skyhawk across the line, placing 10th with a time of 22:12.1, and Tyler Agan (SO/Locust Grove, GA), an All-Conference Freshman team selection and Point's top runner last season, placed 11th among 37 men in the race and recorded a time of 22:24.8.


Three Point runners finished in consecutive order within 28 seconds of each other in the middle of the pack: Drew Duram (FR/Lagrange, GA) placed 19th (18th in the scoring) with a time of 24:10.5; Clay Cofer (JR/McDonough, GA) placed 20th (19th in the scoring) with a time of 24:20.9, and Gage Brasher (FR/Ashland, AL) finished in 21st place (20th in the scoring) with a time of 24:38.9.  A.J. Taylor (JR/Jonesboro, GA) crossed the finish line in 28th place (25th in the scoring) with a time of 26:13.30.
