Women's Cross Country - Sun, Sep. 14, 2014

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The Lady Skyhawk XC team placed seven runners in the Top-10 and 10 runners in the Top-16 at the West Georgia Invitational on Saturday to take first place at the 5K race.

Women's cross country head coach Michael Caldwell views his roster's depth as a distinct advantage to the 2014 season.

"Not all our girls ran well today," Caldwell said. "But, that is the advantage of having the depth we have that we do not have to win with the same individuals each week. The strength of this team is all 14 women. Everyone is a valuable member and brings a lot to this team."

Becky Guadiana (FR/Oak View, Calif.) broke away from the field half way into the race and ended up the overall winner by 20 seconds in a time of 19:12.

"Some of the times we ran today were pretty impressive seeing that this is a pretty challenging course in terms of the hills that the runners have to climb," Caldwell said.

Rounding out the Top-5 for Point was, Samantha Greenlee (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) (19:37, No. 3 overall), Alycea Heredia (FR/Orcutt, Calif.) (19:58, No. 4 overall), Haley Johnson (FR/Douglasville, Ga.) (20:10, No. 6 overall) and Savannah Hanna (20:50, No. 8 overall).

The rest of the scoring for the Skyhawks went as follows: Jackie Escobedo (21:13, No. 9 overall), Maegan Garritson (JR/Fullerton, Calif.) (21:29, No. 10 overall), Shelby Garritson (21:56, No. 13 overall) Esther Estrada (SR/Nogales, Ariz.) (21:56, No. 14 overall), Allison Mangham (JR/Molena, Ga.) (22:23, No. 16 overall), Katie Crumbley (SR/McDonough, Ga. ), (25:08, No. 22 overall), Kati Williams (SO/Zebulon, Ga.), (25:51, No. 26 overall) and Tia Pullens, (27:15, No. 31 overall).
