ALBANY, Ga. -- The Point University men's cross country team opened the season at Darton State College on Saturday and earned a third place finish.

Freshman JustinBraswell led the Skyhawks from wire to wire to come in fifth place overall. Jacob Walters (Fr.) was the second Skyhawk to cross the line and was ninth overall. Rounding out the finishers for the men were: Leonard Scott (So. 16th overall), Johnathan Hall (Fr. 17th overall) and AJ Taylor (Fr. 19th overall).

Head men's cross country coach Michael Caldwell believes his young team shows promise.

"We are a very young team on the men's side with six-of-seven guys running their first college race today I hope the guys learned some lessons today such as the 8K is a completely different race than the 5K," Caldwell said. "If you go out too fast in this distance, you will have a painful lesson taught to you and you need to put miles in during the summer to be good at this distance. I know these guys will work hard and I expect to see a lot faster times in the next month or two."

The men will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 5, at night as they travel to Milligan College to run a 6K in a very talented field.
